Derrick Rose found himself in an unfamiliar position during overtime against the Heat on Thursday night…on the bench. Rose, who admittedly was struggling through an ankle injury, was benched in favor of backup Point Guard CJ Watson. Watson hit a clutch 3-pointer to send the game to overtime and was an astounding +38 while he was on the floor.
After significant time off because of injuries, the rust showed for Rose. He struggled shooting the ball going 1 for 13. How concerned should the Bulls and Derrick Rose fans be? Not very. After that much time away it was expected that Rose would need to work himself back into a rhythm offensively. Furthermore, an athletic team defensively like the Heat were a tough challenge to come back to. Expect Derrick to look more in rhythm when the Bulls take on the Pistons on Sunday.
The Bulls have 7 games left on the season and it will be interesting to see how they manage Derrick Rose and Rip Hamilton. Both players have missed large portions of the season due to injury and just now seem to be hitting a healthy stride. Ideally, the Bulls would head into the playoffs with both players staying healthy while finding their groove with the team. If the Bulls can hit the playoffs in stride they could be favorites to come out of the East.
